Know CCT, CRI, CQS When You Buy Auto LED Bulb & Why They Are Important
LED auto bulbs has changed the way most car owners think about the automotive lights. It has been enhanced for the brightness, customization ,and stability. However the market of this kind is blooming quite rapidly, it is not easy for us to find out the best quality of LED bulbs, let alone those LED technical parameters.
This is an article for you to stop being fooled or confused from those doubted parameters in advertising, giving you another knowledge as the perspective of LED suppliers whoever you are a general or business LED bulb buyer. Let's talk about " CCT, CRI, CQS "

"What? It Ain't Like What Ads Showed Me!"

^ One Random Product Review from Other Sellers
As a buyer, too, I have experiences in buying a warm white LED headlight bulbs which actually looked more natural white or much dimmer. You might stay passionate until the product actually lights far away from your expectation, huh? In reality, a lot of our customers have shared their experience in buying a out-of-satisfaction LED bulbs, especially significant difference in colors, tunes. But why?
There are science-based reasons why we visually sense that the light colors differ from the pictures in the screen or hard flyers. There were optical illusions from the picture below. A Facebook user Nicole Coulthard discovered a screenshot of a trainer in 2017, but no one could seem to decide on what color of this shoe really was. Some people thought the shoe was pink and white, while others said it was grey and aqua.
Just comes to a reason --a dark environment with a green flashlight. That is, the color of the certain objects will be visually different due to the various environment -- outside at noon, dusk, nighttime, interior, or main color(s) behind it. So back to the case for LED auto bulbs, there are two probable factors: (1) your eyes (2) the bulb is actually not what it should be. How can we determine the factor ? Luckily, the technicians help LED suppliers describe their products with these measurements for light colors.

Correlated Color Temperature, CCT

Here is one of our previous articles describing color temperature (CCT):
https://www.per-accurate.com/color-temperature-instruction/
CCT, Correlated Color Temperature, with unit K, is a measurement for the color temperature. The larger number in K is measured for the cooler white, while the smaller number is for warmer white. In our spectrometer, our LED Headlight Bulb HT5 (4,300K warn white) were measured 4,382K by the well-calibrated spectrometer.

What Matters for LED: CRI

cri cqs color rendering indexThe intention of Color Rendering Index CRI is to measure the ability of a light source to reveal the colors of various objects in comparison to a natural (standard) light source.
Remembered that we talked about optical illusion from photo of that shoe? This index would communicate the accuracy and clearness of the light source is illuminating to the surroundings. Numerically the CRI value runs up to 100, down to the negative value. After we referred some consensus among the lighting markets, the LED light measured as CRI = 80 is considered of good quality, accuracy and clearness; the CRI = 80 (or 90 ) is further considered as "high-CRI".

Color Quality Scale, CQS

In terms of the LED lighting, Color Quality Scale (CQS) is the more important index than the CRI. The value ranges from 0 to 100. The photon from the LED is excited by each of the crystal, differing from the halogen or deuterium light, which is not manufactured during crystallization. Therefore, CQS become an measurement to eliminate the incorrect several things that other color rendering indexes have assumed. That said, it is designed to apply LEDs more accurately and equally. It can measure the quality that the LED illuminates its colors.

Which Should We Pick, CRI or CQS?

CRI has been utilized and derived by researchers such in NIST for decades. However, those light sources function has accounted why CRI should be less favorable during the different light sources to be measured. In contrast, CQS actually gives scores that correspond more with how our eyes would sense the light.
CQS has gained more reliability among our product teams because it would enhance the meaning of scores when it comes to LED. The negative CRI values doesn't indicate in some light source the color rendering is nonexistent, which has given us a very clear answer - CQS.

HYUGA LEDs with Complete Technical Reports

We never give up letting our customers and clients obtain the adequate, correct technical knowledge. We believe it is our responsibility to let every one get close to the unbiased measurement! If you ask: are all HYUGA LED bulbs measured as the result of qualified CQS value? Yes, all HYUGA LED bulbs are well-tested with the most advanced integrating sphere that proves the brightness of our bulbs, and the spectrometer that give scores of light color rendering.
If you are finding a seller not really knowing CQS, CRI or even CCT, that's terrible, no? Just get contact with us, we are happy to share more technical topics.
